The Host, by Stephenie Meyer.

SM did it again.

For those of you unfortunate enough to have not read it yet, The Host is the story of an alien (one of many) who possesses a human (as this is what they do) but cannot seem to force the human girl's (called Melanie) consciousness from her body. Their conflicting goals and ambitions lead them on many adventures, delving into the secrets of both character's lives, and eventually the secret that could save the human race.

The Host is one of the most thought-provoking, intense, and enjoyable books I've ever read, next to the Twilight Series (also by Stephenie Meyer). It gripped me from the very start, and even after the last word, I could not help but think over the entire book.

If this book was a painting, it would be better than a Monet, Picasso, and Rembrandt combined. But be warned, you may feel the compulsive need to read it multiple times.

The Scorpion King 2

Craptastic does not do this movie justice.

This movie is basically a failed attempt to create a franchise. The budget was so low that the most it could have bought is the the equivalent of some gummy worms. Speaking of gummy worms, the creatures looked about as real as my dog's chew-toys. To top it off, the acting sucks, the storyline sucks, the cinematography sucks, and the ending sucks harder.

"I can't afford to love you because I love war..."

Pffft! You have got to be kidding me! There are absolutely no redeeming traits for the characters to have, and the plot makes as much sense as a dictionary does to a dyslexic person.

I can understand why The Rock didn't sign on to this one.

Movie: The Dark Knight

I know that this is a little overdue, but I can only post so much...

The Dark Knight is quite possibly one of the most engaging movies of the summer. The intensity of the screenplay had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. However, that is not including the performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker, who had shivers running down my spine the entire time. The Joker's absolute conviction towards the cause of anarchy is so strong that he made me retch. There is no pattern, no sense, and no mercy. However, such a dynamic character of chaos could not be played better by any other than the late Mr Ledger. An Oscar-winning performance at the least, The Dark Knight will go down in history as one of the best movies of the 'Super-hero Summer' of 2008.

5/5 stars.

Movie: Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia is basically a High School Musical for 50-year olds. Cheesy, boring, and a little over the top on the glitz and glamour. However, they get credit for having Pierce Brosnan sing, and for tying in all those Abba songs.

2/5 stars.
